Study Collection

Study collection

Much of our chronology and understanding of the cultural and historical process is in some way dependent on an understanding of pottery--how it differs from region to region and how it changes over time.

The collection, primarily intended as a teaching tool, includes several hundred intact vessels from archaeological periods up to the end of the Iron Age (circa 600-500 BCE). The great majority of forms in use during these periods are housed in glass showcases at the Institute and are organized chronologically. An extensive sherd collection, which is what archaeologists usually encounter in the field, is also available.

The study collection may be seen by appointment with Nirit Kedem. It is also available digitally here >
